I will be the first to admit that I don't have a schedule, I do things at all different times a day and it is not structured at all. I get my lessons ready the day of and because I am so disorganized, it turns into a nightmare because if I don't have everything ready, my son gets frustrated and the whole day is ruined. So I think for the month of January, my mini resolution is to be more organized when it comes to school.
I believe I can accomplish this by making realistic goals and as few as possible, so I don't feel overwhelmed. I think I can be more organized by:
- Getting lessons ready the night before. Have everything in order and all in one place, so the day can run smoothly, well as much as possible.
- Set a better schedule. I am not talking about scheduling my whole day like including chores and appointments, just during the schooling hours. I always start school too late and feel stressed because it interferes with other things going on. So setting an earlier start time is a perfect goal for January.
- Finally, work a little longer in each subject. I personally think that the basic classes should be set to a curriculum, so Math and Language Arts I have things I feel that my son should be learning and we work on that. For the other subjects, like science, social studies, art, etc. I have an unschooling approach, whatever he is showing interest in, I put on a video and or do fun projects that explores those subjects more. For Math and Language Arts, I think I will spend a little more time on those subjects.
