A little background, we use Power Homeschool as our curriculum, It is through Acellus, you can check it out here. They have two options, an online school or homeschool. Both programs use pretty much the same curriculum, the only difference is that Power Homeschool is parent lead and Acellus is teacher lead. We chose to use the parent lead program.
Okay with that said it is an online curriculum, so everything is done online. I supplement with worksheets at the end of the week for subjects that he is struggling with. So the way we have been doing it is Monday thru Thursday he does Language Arts, Math and we do Science and Social Studies every other day. Well he complains about going from one subject to another. So we have started doing one subject a day. So on Mondays, he does 4 days worth of Language Arts, Tuesdays he does 4 days worth of Math, Wednesdays he does 2 days worth of Science and Thursdays he does 2 days worth of Social Studies.
We just started this yesterday with Science, so he only had to do 2 days worth of Science. He was okay with it. But I am worried about Language Arts and Math. Each subject is set up with steps, so he will have to complete 33 steps in one day. I have scheduled a break half way through but not sure how he is going to react.
I personally think this is going to be good. He has such a hard time concentrating that just working on one subject at a time will hopefully keep him engage. I think because he knows that once he is finished with all the steps he is done for the day will keep him motivated to finish the steps.
Keeping my fingers crossed that we have found a winner, but like life, things will change and we will be reworking the schedule again.
I would love to hear some of your experiences doing one subject a day and how it is going or how it didn't work. Let me know in the comments.
